Nightmare After The Dream

What if the 2nd Amendment of the Syrian Constitution gives the people of Syria the right to bear chemical weapons? It is the weapon du jour.

It used to be muskets. Now it’s weapons of mass destruction, nuclear or chemical. Otherwise, you ain’t overthrowing shit, Jack.

What if Syria got a UN Resolution to bomb the US for egregious incarceration of non-violent drug offenders? We have the largest prison population in the world.

What if Syria got a UN Resolution to bomb the US for mass school shootings? Every day we get further away from the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, without doing one God Damn Thing to change, we reinforce the unworthiness of American Intervention Abroad.

What if Syria got a UN Resolution to bomb the US for allowing criminal bankers to bring the world economy to its knees, with irrefutable evidence that instead of punishing criminal bankers, America bailed out criminal bankers, which did little more than incentivize a repeating pattern of financial hocus pocus.

Moral Obscenity? You want to talk Moral Obscenity?

To Hell with Chemical Weapons. Let’s talk Hidden Fees.

To Hell with Chemical Weapons. Let’s talk Adjustable Rate Mortgages.

To Hell with Chemical Weapons. Let’s talk Bundling Mortgages.

Let’s talk TARP.

Troubled Asset Rape Program

Round-up George W. Bush for TARP, make him talk. Round-up Dick Cheney for wartime tax cuts, make him talk. Round-up Alan Greenspan for Irrational Exuberance, make him talk.

Who cares about Assad? Who cares about Putin? Who cares about Mubarak? Who cares about Syria? Who cares about Russia? Who cares about Egypt? Who cares about a two-state solution? That is to say, who can afford to care?

Certainly not us. We can’t afford it. Take that in.

Tomorrow is the day after the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s “Dream Speech.” We’re going to honor the dream by creating a nightmare.

Syria smells alot like Iraq at the moment. Back in the days of the build up to Iraq, Obama insisted on an action by the UN and worried about international legalities. Bush and Cheney declared themselve the world police, didn’t wait for the inspections to come to conlusions, and rushed to war.

Now Obama is the President, instead of waiting for international legalities, I’m afraid the politics of the moment are pushing him in a direction we’ve seen before.

British Prime Minister David Cameron also doesn’t seem to care much about international legality. And this time, neither do the French.

As far as they are all concerned, a criminal act has been committed so now they must engage in what they call “retaliation.” I don’t see what they are retaliating about. The weapons weren’t used against them. It should be the rebels who want retaliation.

If the aim is to stop the breach of international law and to keep the lid on others with chemical weapons, military action without first waiting for the UN inspector report is not the way to go about it.

As Gregor indicated, any move by the US should be first brought before Congress. Obama is not a king, Dubya Bush was the king, and that didn’t work out so great…for the entire world.

    • Gregor says:

I like the way that sounds, “As Gregor Indicated.” I think that should be the the world’s moral imperative.

  2. Steven says:

When all else fails, WMD is the reason to go in. We tried alot of other ways to destabilize the syrian government and just like Libya, he is going to go, one way or another.

    And Iran is probably next.

Wesley Clark Stated that it was told to him that it was not just Iraq in our crosshairs, it was nine middle eastern countries that we were going to take down after 911. There has already been 100,000 deaths reported by the media. And 100 were supposedly killed by WMD’s.

Does it really matter the way he killed people? So if he killed 10,000,000 by machine gun it is ok? Do you really think Assad is dumb enought to use WMD’s? That would be committing suicide.

They have produced no evidence of this. It is ridiculous. We and Israel want him out. And that’s just the reason that’s given. Nobody really believes it in the rest of the world, if you read foreign media.

  3. Andy says:

I agree with jackass Steven Assad has killed 100k+ people. A machine gun round or artillery shell are horrible ways to die. Chemicals are just another military tool. STAY THE FUCK OUT OF THAT COUNTRIES CIVIL WAR!!! PROVIDE THE REBELS WITH THEIR GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS BUT SEND THEM A BILL AFTER THE CONFLICT IS OVER. I thank God those people have weapons that have allowed them to hold off Assad’s asshole regime. Just goes to show how precious our right to bear arms is. Go rebels!

  4. vince says:

I find it sad to see that Andy is still a moron. He said, “PROVIDE THE REBELS WITH THEIR GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS.” What god? Your god? Their god? My god!!

The Syrian Liberation Front, numbering 37,000 fighters, and the Syrian Islamic Front, numbering 13,000 fighters, are mostly espouse an Islamist Al Qaeda ideology, in contrast to the self-declared non-sectarianism of the Free Syrian Army, who number 50,000. So 1/2 of the rebels are USA enemies. Great, let’s arm them because their god, or your god, says so; my god!

On another funny note, I listened to Obama give the Medal of Honor to Sgt. Carter. Just before Obama opened his mouth, a preacher prayed. He thanked his god, for helping the US soldiers to kill brown people and to deliver our version of honor and justice at the end of a gun to the rest of the world. We seem to have quite a bit in common with our fanatical religious enemies. My god!

Andy, which group of fanatics should run Syria?

  5. Andy says:

Too stupid to respond to I watched Carter’s ceremony too. If you don’t like us get the fuck out of the country. If you’re so repulsed by the Christians pack your bags close your “business” and leave-you won’t be missed.

    • Gregor says:

Nothing makes me happier than the rare occasion when 8Andy, Vinny Vegas & Conspiracy Steve agree for half a second, and then gloriously proceed to eat each other alive.

  6. Babs says:

Dead is dead! If we didn’t care when Assad killed the last 100,000 of his own people, why the Hell do we care now?

Chemical weapons? Give me a break.

As proud as I am that we finally got some bit of justice and equality with a black President, I will be sad if this man that I voted for, twice, and respect in so many ways, goes into Syria.

It will only prove that big money runs this country, both right and left. And there is no “change we can believe in.” As far as “god given rights,” where in the Bible does it say “grab your guns?”

  7. Vince says:

Poor Andy. You are starting to realize that Christian Right is losing its grip of control of OUR country. A country of Athiests, Agnostics, Chrisitians, Pastafarians, Muslims, Jews etc.

You go pray to your imaginary god of war. If I were to chose to worship an imaginary thing and call it a god, I’d at least chose a peaceful one that doesn’t help kill kids and families so big corporations can make huge money.

Andy, it’s not your country. It’s mine. Now go pack your bags, moron.

  8. Broder says:

Sad news. Just as we all feared, things are getting more and more like Iraq. This just came in. The UN hasn’t made any conclusions yet and the inspectors are there. Here is what just came in:

“We have concluded that the Syrian government in fact carried these out,” Obama said during an interview with PBS’ NewsHour. “And if that’s so, then there need to be international consequences.”

Earlier Wednesday, the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council failed to reach an agreement on a draft resolution from the British seeking authorization for the use of force. Russia, as expected, objected to international intervention.

Obama administration officials said they would take action against the Syrian government even without the backing of allies or the United Nations because diplomatic paralysis must not prevent a response to the alleged chemical weapons attack outside the Syrian capital last week.
So Obama said we would attack on our own. Holy shit Batman. I saw this movie before.

  9. Andy says:

Vince what do you think about the occupation? You’re oddly silent whenever the question of the Palestinians is raised. You a Likudeee Vinny? The silence is deafening. And no sorry swindler this is and shall remain a Christian nation.

  10. Vince says:

    What is a “likudee?”

I think that Israel should stop the settlements and pull them back. I think most Arab states want to wipe Israel out. I think they use the Palestinians as a thorn, a tool, to keep poking at Israel and to keep peace from happening. I think Israel in the last ten years followed Duvya into conservative far right land. They are finally swinging back to a more centered approach. I think Netanyahu is far right but was thankfully forced to have a left cabinet. Once they remove him and get a liberal in, peace is achievable.

  11. Vince says:

I think that having Hezbollah in control of part of Palestinians makes peace almost impossible; as they will never allow peace with Israel, no matter what. I think that it is odd that most of the big problems of war, terrorism and killings involve Muslim countries.

I think once you accept science, you understand that gods and tooth fairies are related.
